A teacher’s aide in Georgia is now fired after posting on social media about Michelle Obama. These posts are blowing up the internet and are outraging anyone who sees them.
Jane Wood Allen is a former teacher’s aide at a Georgia elementary school who went onto social media to call Michelle Obama a “gorilla” and a “disgrace to America.” The status is now deleted, but has been seen over a million times through Twitter and Facebook. The Twitter hash tag #FireJaneWoodAllen is trending due to the immense backlash which this woman is seeing after her racist words went viral.
The complete status is filled with institutionalized racism that is fit for a hate crime. Her original post is deleted, but it is shared by over 3,700 people and has been reacted to 620 times. The post also sparked over 400 angry comments, which are supporting the termination of her position in a school.
The complete status reads, “This poor gorilla. How is she going to function in the real world, by not having all of her luxurious vacations paid for anymore? She needs to focus on getting a total make over (especially the hair), instead of planning vacations! She is a disgrace to America!”
The other post she uploaded is a story which details why Michelle Obama is one of the most iconic and admired women in politics. Allen comments on the story for her viewers stating, “Do you admire her? I admire a gorilla more than I admire her. (Wait, I forgot she is a gorilla)!”
Her posts are also not just demeaning towards First Lady Michelle Obama, but are Islamophobic as well.
Allen writes, “Bye! Don’t come back now,” in the caption while posting an article detailing Muslims in America. The article is also extremely pro Trump, detailing his views concerning “extreme vetting.” She again comments on the article and American Muslims by stating, “You have no business in the USA anyway!”
The school district she is an employee for is not happy about her comments and posts, and fired the aide on Monday October 3, 2016. Allen is a former paraprofessional, or teacher’s assistant for the Chestatee Elementary School in Gainesville, Georgia. The school is also predominantly a white institution, while African American children make up for only 3.15 percent of the school’s demographic. Even with these statistics, her statements are atrocious and incredibly hate filled.
The school district states, “Racism and discrimination are not tolerated in our school district. We are committed to ongoing staff training on the acceptance of all individuals. As this is a personnel matter, the district will provide no further comment.”
After her termination and her viral rants breaking the internet, Allen is not speaking out about her actions according to sources. She is also not the first person to have a Facebook rant about the President and she isn’t going to be the last. The problem with this story is that racism and Islamophobia are all too common in American culture and on the internet.
